The Maui High drumline currently has 6 players. Our instructor is Erik Kreft, former members of both the Santa Clara Vanguard and the University of Hawaii Drumline.
Mr. Kerry Wasano is our band director and he works us very very hard. We start our sectionals for the next season during early June. We spend a great deal both a home and at rehearsal building our warm-ups to a solid speed.
Our line is lead by Seniors Tasha Arakaki (snare) and Israel (Iz) Chavez (tenor). In the picture above we are playing on our brand new yamaha drums. We like to think of them as a reward for doing well in our first competition in 2001. In 2002 our band competed in the annual Kamehameha tournement of bands and our drumline once again took 1st place in the percussion category, proof that size does not always matter. Tasha also won a 3rd place soloist award.
